Why the simple act of eating has become so confusing

Everywhere you turn, someone is announcing a new food intolerance, new allergy, new – sometimes conflicting - dietary advice. Eat eggs. Don’t eat eggs. Everything in moderation. Don’t eat some food groups at all. We are told to eat clean, eat Keto or Paleo, don't eat carbs, don't eat fruit, guzzle celery juice, fast intermittently, don't fast, drink detox teas, be a vegan, vegetarian or flexitarian...

Where does it stop?

We live in a very fast-paced world where there is a tsunami of mixed messages, misinformation and what I call Nutrition Nonsense out there.

The nutrition and wellness world has become so very complicated, contradictory and confusing that nobody actually knows what or how to eat anymore!  The good news is it's not all bad - because knowledge is power. So where do you turn for advice?

I’ve worked with many in the past 22 years and can conclusively say that all bodies are unique and each person needs their own circumstances taken into consideration. There is no one-size-fits-all solution.

Clients who come to me are often in that place where they feel really bamboozled about what to eat and how to feel well - they have gone down the rabbit hole of trying every diet and every magic pill, potion and cleanse, every exercise regime and they are not getting any results. They feel like crap and are often really stuck.

I believe people genuinely want to be healthy. They often feel overwhelmed with the idea of what ‘health’ looks like because there are so many variables and mixed messages out there about what good health actually is.

Over the course of my career, I have witnessed a rapid evolution of the world of food and nutrition. Even as a practicing nutritionist, it’s hard to keep up with the ever-changing goal posts. I strive to ensure I find the best options for each individual client.

Why has eating become so confusing?

Nutrition researchers and scientists all agree on one thing…they often disagree! The scientific evidence about what foods are ‘good for us' constantly changes and it’s very hard to keep up with shifting recommendations. A hundred research studies will tell us that 'dairy is good for us because it makes our bones strong' whereas another 100 studies will say 'dairy is bad for because it causes inflammation and mucous production'. Often for every study revealing something is good for us…there will be a counter study to reveal it is bad for us!

Over the past few decades, a booming 'food manufacturing' industry has been developed where supermarkets, specialty food-stores and online stores are literally bursting with countless confusing and conflicting food options - there is just too much choice!

We also find ourselves living in the era of the multi-billion dollar DIET industry and society's obsession with 'weight loss' and 'perfectionism' where we are constantly lured by a gazillion new fad diets, detoxes, magic potions, powders and pills.

I can help you navigate this minefield.

I help people understand that we are all ‘bio-individual’, meaning biologically unique. Together we sift through, simplify and deconstruct all of this wellness waffle - and go ‘back to basics’. We work to discover how to understand, support and optimise ‘their’ body - so they can become their healthiest version of ‘themselves’.
